School Details

At what age does Casa Bambino Montessori admit children, and how long can they remain in the school?

The children start at Casa Bambino Montessori after they complete 18 months and can stay with us until they get into a primary school. They leave before they turn five and a half years old.

How do you group children within classrooms?

As with most Montessori schools, we have mixed age group classrooms, ranging from children who are two years to five years of age. The children learn at their own pace, guided by their teachers and an individual learning plan. The younger children observe and learn from the older ones, while the older ones gain confidence and reinforce their knowledge by sharing their experiences with the younger ones.

What is your teacher-to-child ratio?

Toddler program ratio - 1:5

Primary group ratio - 1:8

What are the school timings?

Toddler Program: 18 months to 2 years: 9:15 to 11:15a.m. (gradually)

2 years to 2.5 years: 9:00 to 12:00 p.m.

Primary group: 2.5 years onwards: 9:00 to 12:30 p.m.

When the new babies join the school, they start at 9:15 a.m., and a parent can accompany them for the first two days. The school will be for half an hour only. The timings will be increased gradually depending on how the children are settling down.

Are there bus services in addition to the Carpool mentioned on the website?

We do not offer bus service and encourage all students to come to school in carpools, which may be organised with the help of class teachers. The children should be dropped off at the school door, after which school teachers will escort them inside.

Only cars with three or more children are permitted inside the Oomer Park Compound and are requested to leave the compound immediately after drop-off. If you park outside Oomer Park, please ensure your car is parked appropriately to facilitate the traffic.

Do you serve meals during school hours?

We serve a 15-minute morning snack consisting of fruit, Idlis, Khakra, Thepla, or cheese/chutney sandwiches.

If the children want to celebrate their birthday in school, they can bring an eggless cake and wafers however no gifts are allowed.

Curriculum & Activities

What is Montessori?

"The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, 'The children are now working as if I did not exist.’" (Dr Maria Montessori)

Developed by Italian physician and educator, Dr Maria Montessori in the early 20th century, the Montessori Method is a self-directed learning approach emphasising hands-on experiences.

The Prepared Environment is set up keeping the child’s development, abilities, interests and safety in mind. With the help of the Adult, the child is free to observe and explore their environment while also learning the basic, yet important skills required throughout life.

What is the Montessori Environment?

The Montessori Environment is a prepared environment designed to encourage a child’s natural curiosity for learning. It includes furniture and materials appropriate for their size and development allowing for independence, hands-on experience and the freedom to explore safely.

With five main areas of learning, each created specifically to focus on the child’s development, children get a well-rounded education. They gain experiences in Exercises of Practical Life with basic skills like dressing, cooking, sweeping, grace and courtesy etc. that also enhance their fine and gross motor skills, balance, and movement.

Sensorial Activities engage the five senses and help them understand the world around them through tangible material.

Language focuses on reading, writing and communication and helps develop an appreciation for books.

Mathematics explores numbers, and sequencing and sets the groundwork for arithmetic.

Culture introduces children to History, Geography, Science, Music, Art and many other aspects that a child is not usually exposed to at such a young age.

What is the Toddler’s Program?

The Montessori Toddler Program caters to children aged 18 months to under 3 years. It encourages exploration and learning by engaging the child in activities that focus on their developmental stage.

During this time a child’s main development is gross and fine motor skills and coordination and the material involves several activities such as pouring, spooning, sorting, sweeping, folding napkins, hand washing, table setting, basic gardening, dressing, etc. that are not only enhances these skills but also helps them learn daily routines and requirements for self-care.

Social skills are another integral aspect of a young child’s development creating self-awareness as well as consideration for others and the environment around them. Having children of different ages together in one classroom helps children thrive while at the same time allowing them to develop at their own pace.

Language development is also crucial at this age. Every stage of learning includes the correct terminology to build the child’s vocabulary and aid in their communication skills. Mathematics, though not introduced directly, is a skill they obtain through toddler activities as they learn critical thinking, logical reasoning and special awareness.

What is the Primary Program?

The Primary Program is created for children aged 2.5 to 6 years keeping in mind their development and abilities. It lays the foundation for various important life skills such as independence, fine motor skills, concentration, critical thinking and social and emotional awareness.

The Mixed Age Group helps children work together in various roles. Older children become guides and role models for younger ones, helping develop their leadership skills and responsibility while younger children benefit by observing and learning from the older ones.

Self-Paced Learning allows a child to focus on an activity or skill that they are trying to master without interruption. As each child learns independently and at their own pace, they are not pressured into completing a task within a particular time frame. The environment itself is designed to balance structure and freedom.

With a focus on the child, their physical, mental, cognitive, social and emotional needs are catered to, giving the child a Well-Rounded Learning Experience that prepares them for the future. Through this, the child gains a Love for Learning as well as a confidence and foundation that will support them throughout their life.

What is the Adult’s Role in a Montessori Environment?

The Adult plays an important role in the Montessori environment by not only guiding the child through their learning process but also observing the child and boosting their strengths and skills by creating activities that meet their needs.

What is the Weekly Schedule?

Our mornings start at 9:00am and end at 12:30pm. Once the children are settled, they spend the first 90 minutes working with the Montessori materials, after which they break for a morning snack. Depending on the day, the children have activities like arts and craft, play dough, and 'Show and Tell'. Activities that help develop their creativity, speaking skills and confidence.

Aerobics, yoga or 30 minutes playtime in our spacious outdoor playground complete the children's morning and help them build their motor and social skills.

The children have a 20-minute music session three times a week, where they are exposed to various musical instruments, sounds and music.

Do you offer play time? If yes, for how long?

Yes, the children relish our spacious outdoor playground twice/three times a week. (Weather permitting)

Tracking Progress

How do you assess the child’s progress?

Each child has a school file. The activities presented and the teacher’s observations regarding the child’s completion of the same are noted.

How often are your parent-teacher meetings?

Our parent-teacher meetings are held once every term (3 months) and more often if needed. The parents and teachers can request an individual meeting as and when required. All meetings are held after school ends.

How do I stay updated on my child’s curriculum?

At the end of every month, we email the parents a planner with all the topics and activities that were covered.

Fees Structure

What is the fee structure?

The school fees is payable twice a year at the beginning of each half year, irrespective of whether your child leaves in the middle of a term. If you wish to withdraw your child, you are required to give us a one months’ notice in writing before the end of the current term. If you fail to do so, you will be charged the fees for the entire term.

Health & Safety

What are your health measures?

We suggest that parents regularly screen their children before sending them to school. If the child has any of the following symptoms - fever, headache, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or loss of smell or taste, the child should stay at home till they have completely recovered.

A medical certificate will be required before the child returns to school in case of infectious illness or exposure to infection.

Kindly ensure that all immunizations and vaccinations are kept up to date.

Do you accommodate allergies and dietary restrictions?

Please inform the teachers if your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions.

What if my child gets sick or hurt?

All our teachers are aware of child safety mechanisms and performing first aid. In case of any accident, the parents will be informed immediately. In the rare case of an emergency, your child is in safe hands and will be taken to the nearest hospital.

Can I access or view the school cameras?

No. For the safety of the children attending the school, our cameras are only for internal monitoring.
